Course Description:
In this class we will cover the basics of After Effects animation and dive into more complex motion graphics techniques. You will develop an understanding of timing, rhythm and composition; learn to create unique effects and apply them with taste; master various methods of animating text and 3D tracking; Explore After Effects 3d tools… and watch a lot of animation!

Requirements:
1. External hard drive
You must own an external hard drive large enough to contain all your projects (around 500 gigs). Bring it to every class with your latest work.

2. Vimeo account
If you haven’t already, please sign up for a free Vimeo account (www.vimeo.com). You will upload all your projects to Vimeo and send me the links (and passwords if you wish to keep your work private).

Assignment grades
Student performance is evaluated by assignment grades based on the following
criteria:
1 Concept (25%)
2 Quality of motion and design based on assignment benchmarks (50%)
3 Punctual submission (15%)

Attendance and conduct

If you are having any problems with deadlines or need be absent, please email me in advance.
There are no unexcused absences or cuts. Students are expected to attend all classes. Any unexcused absence may affect your final grade. Three unexcused absences may result in course failure at the discretion of the instructor. Unexcused tardiness may also affect your final grade.
Personal wireless devices must be inaudible at all times and used only for class purposes.

Final Grades
1 Weekly projects (70%)
2 Final reel (15%)
3 Class participation (15%)

Your final grade is based upon the performance evaluation criteria listed above as well as your attendance, punctuality, and class conduct. A grade of Incomplete (INC) will be considered only for medical reasons or other serious circumstances
beyond your control. Last-minute printing problems or loss of files
because you did not back them up are not legitimate reasons for an Incomplete grade.
Students are required to submit each finished assignment by uploading their rendered videos to Vimeo  (or equivalent service) and e-mailing the link.
If you are majoring in advertising art direction, graphic design, or illustration, you are required to participate in semester-end Survey. Failure to do so will result in a grade of F for the course.

Tutoring:
If you are having trouble with any aspect of After Effects or related software, please let me know ASAP and I will arrange an in-person or online tutoring session.
